A Letter To Future Owners Of The Crown League:
We started The Crown League because we love pro sports, we love fantasy sports, and because we knew something big was missing from our experience as fans: ownership. As it happens, none of us had an extra few billion dollars lying around to purchase a pro sports team, which is why we turned to fantasy to enhance our sports experience and bring us closer to the game. But even though we enjoyed playing our standard season-long rosters against a small group of friends, we ultimately realized that fantasy sports was a solitary endeavor with an experience that couldn’t genuinely be shared with others like it is amongst pro sport team fan bases. And due to the zero-sum game format of fantasy, we also couldn’t escape the feeling that our enjoyment was always fleeting and that we didn’t really have teams, or a league, in which we could actually invest over the long term.
So, our fantasy experience was unfulfilling and lacked the continuity that comes from seeing a team you love, a team you can root for with others, a team you’re really invested in, play from season to season, weather storms, and hopefully achieve success.
The problem, we realized, was twofold: fantasy sports was devoid of community at the team level and neither we, nor any of the people we were playing with, really owned our teams.
Owning a pro sports franchise, actually being invested in it and its performance, overseeing its management by professional experts alongside a legion of other owners who share your passion, would not only fulfill the dreams of millions of sports fans by democratizing the ownership of professional sports, but also create a new business opportunity that could align fandom with financial interests in a way never thought to be possible.
By professionalizing and securitizing fantasy team entities into assets that could trade fluidly in secure marketplaces, we could establish the first unified national fantasy league whose franchises would be publicly owned and governed by a diverse community of friends, family, colleagues, investors, sports fans and fantasy enthusiasts.
So we’ve created another model and another way, based on everything we love about sports and investing – and avoided anything we think takes the wind out of a great fan experience.
The Crown League means that, finally, sports fans everywhere looking for a deeper connection to the game can finally invest in, own and share their passion.
We couldn’t be more excited to launch our league and provide an unprecedented experience to sports fans all over the world.
Welcome to The Crown League.
